Ingredients
  

  • 2 Slices of your favorite bread e.g., sourdough, Texas toast, or classic white
  • 1 ½ - 2 tbsp Butter softened (or mayonnaise for an extra crispy crust)
  • 2-3 Slices of cheese a combination is best! See notes
  • Classic: Cheddar or American
  • Gourmet: Gruyère Havarti, or Provolone
  • Combo: Cheddar + Monterey Jack

Instructions
 

  • Prepare the Bread: Spread the softened butter (or mayonnaise) evenly on one side of each slice of bread. This will become the crispy outer crust.
  • Build the Sandwich: Place the slices of cheese between the two pieces of bread, with the unbuttered sides facing inward, touching the cheese. The buttered sides should be facing out.
  • Preheat Air Fryer (Optional but recommended): Preheat your air fryer to 370°F (190°C) for 2-3 minutes. This helps start the cooking process immediately for a crispier result.
  • Cook: Place the sandwich in the air fryer basket. You do not need to pre-grease the basket. Air fry for 5-7 minutes at 370°F (190°C).
  • Flip Halfway: Flip the sandwich over carefully at the 3-minute mark. Check for doneness at the 5-minute mark. Cook until the bread is golden brown and crispy to your liking.

  • Serve: Remove the sandwich from the air fryer using tongs. Let it rest for 1 minute before cutting it in half (this allows the cheese to set slightly). Serve immediately.
